Project Management in an Academic Setting

Presenters: Catherine M. Gynn, Ph.D., Assistant Director for eLearning, Ohio State University Technology Enhanced Learning and Research; Adjunct Associate Professor, Industrial, Interior, & Visual Communication Design
Victoria Getis, Instructional Designer, Ohio State University Technology Enhanced Learning and Research.

Description: From first ideas to final evaluation, undertaking innovative projects is a complex, challenging business. Initial chaos somehow must develop to produce results that answer given needs in ways that can be adapted and emulated. However helpful, the often overriding business-speak of project management can be off-putting to an academic audience. In this workshop, faculty and administrators will learn about project management concepts that relate to their academic projects. This workshop will provide participants with hands-on experience in writing a scope statement, developing a budget, arriving at a reasonable timeline, and identifying people who may have a vested interest in their projects. The workshop is designed to benefit faculty and administrators charged with managing projects on their campuses by providing an in-depth introduction to project management skills and an understanding of the long-term benefits of project planning in an academic setting

This workshop will benefit individuals who want to enhance the comprehension, acceptance and application of information in ways that will help the learner meet their goal and be successful. The workshop is for competency-based learners, who will want to learn skills or acquire knowledge that can be applied immediately.
